Pre-Surgical Bariatric Evaluations

Most people experience significant life changes after bariatric surgery. Your bariatric surgeon might require an evaluation prior to surgery to help you understand what to expect from the surgery, including the physical and mental changes you might experience afterwards.

The evaluation process involves:

  • Initial session: We'll talk about your background, including your medical history, mental health history, and any history of weight loss. We'll also talk about the type of surgery that you plan to receive.

  • Psychological assessment: You'll complete a more detailed psychological assessment that might include psychological tests, questionnaires, or answering additional questions.

  • Feedback session: We'll discuss the results of the assessment, including any concerns that arise, and we'll talk about recommendations for next steps. There is a quick turnaround time so that after your evaluation, you can get the results quickly and follow up with your surgeon.

The goal of the evaluation is to optimize your changes for long-term success with weight management.
